The Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture has announced the preparation of eight point four billion seedlings nationwide for the two thousand and twenty five edition of the Green Legacy environmental campaign, nine hundred million more than initially planned.

In an interview with Fana Media Corporation, a partner of TV BRICS, Shanko Tessa, Head of the Watershed Development Desk at the Ministry, noted that the initial target was seven point five billion seedlings.

Tessa said that the campaign covers 1.9million hectares of land, of which 1.5million hectares had already been recognized as suitable for planting; while, detailed tree placement maps have been developed for 492 thousand hectares.

He said that to date, over 518.9million seedlings have been planted and 3.1billion planting holes have been prepared.

Reports indicate over 116 thousand locations nationwide, including government agencies, schools, farms, private and religious organizations, are implementing environmental initiatives across the country effectively.
