Governor Caleb Mutfwang has emphasized the need for a robust grievance mechanism to address citizen concerns and promote accountability.

Speaking at the opening of a three-day step-down training on Grievance Mechanism and Gender-Based Violence in Jos, the Governor stressed that such a mechanism ensures citizens’ voices are heard and issues addressed promptly.

The training, organized by the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) Plateau Coordinating Unit, brought together stakeholders to discuss grievance mechanisms and gender-based violence.

Governor Mutfwang represented by the secretary to the government of the state Samuel Jatau noted that gender violence is a pervasive issue affecting individuals, families, and communities, requiring collective action to prevent and respond to.

The Governor urged the participants to utilize the training to learn, share, and grow.

Plateau State Coordinator of NG-CARES, Haggai Gutap, appreciated Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to the program’s success.

Commissioner for Finance, Chairman of the State Steering Committee Grace Dongkum, emphasized the importance of capacity building and teamwork in achieving set goals.

The Chairperson of the Gender Equal Opportunities Commission, Olivia Dazyem, represented by the Acting Secretary of the commission Nalong Gumut, noted the training’s aligns with the Commission’s mandate to promote and protect vulnerable populations.

The National Coordinator of NG-CARES, Abdulkarim Obaje, represented by Eniola Kehinde, stated that the training is a top priority for the World Bank NG-CARES program, aimed at empowering staff for effective implementation.

The training is expected to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in addressing grievances and responding to gender-based violence, promoting accountability and protecting vulnerable populations in Plateau State.
