Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his commitment to compensating the absorbed casual staff of state-owned tertiary institutions for the many years they served as ad-hoc workers, often on very little pay.
The Governor made this pledge while hosting the newly absorbed staff at the Victoria Gowon Hall, Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
From the onset of his administration, Governor Mutfwang has placed strong emphasis on proper recruitment, with particular attention to integrating long-serving casual workers who kept the system running through challenging times. During the interactive session, he met with staff absorbed into the State Civil Service from various tertiary institutions, celebrating this milestone with them.
The Governor congratulated the workers and thanked them for their patience and resilience, acknowledging the difficult conditions under which many of them served. He also criticized the last-minute employment carried out by the previous administration, which overlooked dedicated ad-hoc staff.
Governor Mutfwang assured them of decent wages driven by sustainable wealth creation, and expressed his administration’s willingness to support them in advancing their education. He encouraged the staff to remain committed to their duties and to add value to their institutions as they begin this new phase.
Josiah Sati Yalwat, Chairman of the absorbed staff who identify as the Green Gen Movement, expressed profound appreciation to the Governor. He said the group believes Governor Mutfwang has written his name in gold through this gesture and announced their endorsement of his second-term bid.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Education, Kachollom Gang, described the Governor as a compassionate leader, noting that beyond approving employment, he directed that casual staff across all tertiary institutions be given a fair chance.
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Labour Relations, Titus Alams, and his Adviser on Youth Development, Hitler Pwajok, also commended the administration for bringing relief and dignity to the affected staff.
