A tragic incident has left residents of Onipaanu in Ogun State in deep shock after a 14-year-old boy, Pelumi, was found dead shortly after expressing affection for a girl in his neighbourhood.

Pelumi had earlier sent a small gift and a note to a girl named Adijat. He reportedly asked another person to deliver the items while he watched from a distance. When the girl and neighbours discovered he was the one who sent them, they teased him playfully about being “too young” for such gestures, and also adding that he was ready for marriage.
According to the girl’s mother, Rukayyat, the mood was light and no one imagined the incident would affect him deeply. Moments later, Pelumi ran off. By evening, news emerged that a young boy in the area had taken his own life.
It was later suggested that Pelumi feared returning home, worried that his mother would scold or punish him for giving a girl a gift and writing her a love letter.
